Working towards the delivery of a community based screening test for the detection of early stage ovarian cancer.
The mission of Ovcare is to make a difference for the 200,000 women worldwide who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and for the 110,000 women who die each year of this disease. Most women are first diagnosed with ovarian cancer at a late stage when outcomes are poor. If found early, Ovarian cancer is curable in more than 90% of cases.
Unfortunately, there is no early detection test for this insidious disease.
To this end the Ovcare National Cancer Centre is committed to the development and delivery of a community based screening test for the detection of early stage ovarian cancer.
Headed by Professor Greg Rice, the Ovcare reasearch team is working to improve the performance of blood tests for detecting and monitoring ovarian cancer. It is working with clinical research groups based at the National University of Singapore and Imperial College, London.
“Life presents us with opportunities to make a difference. It’s our attitude to life, how we action our hopes and dreams that can make it a reality. It is through community support and the support of the Fight Cancer Foundation and the Ovcare National Cancer Centre that we will be able to realise our dream and deliver better outcomes for women.”
Professor Greg Rice.
In 2008 the Fight Cancer Foundation formally established a partnership with the Ovcare National Cancer Centre in support of ovarian cancer research and test development.
