Accommodation Facility
Having a loved one nearby is a critical aspect of the recovery process of cancer patients, and most families are willing to do anything to be with them. However, inexpensive accommodation in the city that caters to people with cancer and their families is hard to find. This often leaves rural, interstate and overseas patients in the difficult situation of being unable to find accommodation close to the treating hospitals whilst their loved ones are in critical care.
To fill this need, the Bone Marrow Donor Institute, with the assistance of Rotary, established the BMDI Rotary House close to Melbourne’s major hospitals. We are looking to extend the provision of accommodation facilities in other areas where needed.
The BMDI Rotary House is a ‘home away from home’ for patients and their families. We offer one and two bedroom apartments, with lounge room, bathroom, kitchen and airconditioning in each, to ensure that viruses are not spread through communal airconditioning units.
