Bone Marrow Research Laboratories
Officially opened in July, 1994, The Bone Marrow Research Laboratories, which is located in the Rotary Bone Marrow Research Centre, Level 2, 1D Royal Parade, Parkville, Victoria, has been a hive of activity since that time.
Staff numbers have steadily increased over the years, as has the calibre of scientific research being done in the laboratories.
While initially the research labs were to be specifically dedicated to finding a cure for leukaemia and other blood-related disorders, the scientists there have found themselves thrust into new exciting areas as well.
Under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Stephen Jane, the research labs have attracted substantial peer review, financial support for experimental work and maintain an excellent publication record in top international journals. The Fight Cancer Foundation continues to fund research into a cure for leukaemia and other cancers.
An exciting recent development in the labs was the discovery of the defective gene that causes spina bifida.
