Best on Ground 2016 - Dapto Citizens Bowling Club
Our Best on Ground Award aims to highlight someone who went above and beyond on Footy Colours Day – and none more so than Jason Smith and the Dapto Citizen’s Bowling Club.
Last year was the first time up and coming Footy Colours Day legend Jason Smith from the Dapto Citizen’s Bowling Club took part in Footy Colours Day and he loved supporting Australian kids with cancer so much he wanted to do something even bigger this year.
“I’ve known many people who had cancer and knowing what they went through I can’t imagine what it must be like for a child – it must be so much scarier,” said Jason.
Jason is a massive Cronulla Sharks fan and this year used his loved for the club as inspiration to raise money for Footy Colours Day. To achieve his goal of $5000, he dyed his hair in the Shark’s blue and white colours, vowing to shave it all off if he reached his fundraising goal. Using Facebook to get his friends and colleagues on board, on Footy Colours Day he was just shy of his $5000 target when he went the extra mile to pull one out of the bag and claim a win for the Footy Colours Day team – to shave an eyebrow as well as his head. It worked, as he blew his target out of the water making a whopping $5620.
Every pass of the shaver brought more cheers and laughs from club members and friends who clearly enjoyed the day and Jason’s new buzz cut. As he couldn’t take photos himself, Jason encouraged everyone to take snaps and help promote Footy Colours Day by sharing them online using #FootyColoursDay.
“The feeling of knowing you are helping others and making a difference is intoxicating and makes you feel great!”
The Sharks are lucky to have a supporter like you, Jason – and we’re proud you’re our Best on Ground this Footy Colours Day season!
