Appeal to the community to raise $1 million
Fight Cancer Foundation is thrilled to officially launch a capital appeal campaign to expand our Albury Wodonga patient accommodation centre, Hilltop.
We are appealing to the community to raise $1 million towards the project, which will cost approximately $3.8 million. A Federal Government grant of $1.9 million, along with $1.1 million committed from Fight Cancer Foundation makes up the balance.
Former Albury Mayor and active Rotarian Cr Alice Glachan has been appointed as the Capital Fundraising Campaign Director and will lead the public appeal. Cr Glachan was an avid supporter of Stage 1 and is an invaluable addition to the Stage 2 expansion.
Project partners Rotary Club of Albury North, Lions District 201V6 and the Zonta Club of Albury Wodonga will play a crucial role in achieving the $1 million dollar target. Rotary Club of Albury North and Zonta Club of Albury Wodonga kicked off the community fundraising on Tuesday night with a $57,000 and $15,000 donation respectively.
Construction of Stage 2 has begun and the expansion, which will see the addition of 10 accommodation units, additional communal spaces and other guest facilities is forecast to be completed by July 2020.
Fight Cancer Foundation’s Managing Director, Eric Wright, is proud of the impact the expansion will have on people living with cancer and their families.
“The expansion will increase the capacity of Hilltop by 3,650 guest nights each year, ensuring we are meeting the increasing demand by patients and carers in the area,” said Mr Wright.
Cr Alice Glachan is thrilled to be part of a project which will have such a positive impact on the community.
“I love my community and to be able to do anything to help my community is fantastic,” said Cr Glachan.
Hilltop provides people receiving treatment for cancer and their carers with comfortable accommodation just 50 metres from the Albury Base Hospital and Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. More than 11,000 guest nights have been provided to patients and their carers in the last two years.
