Your kind gift today will keep families together in a safe, secure home away from home while they’re fighting cancer.
Unless you’ve been through it yourself, none of us knows how terrifying and overwhelming it must be to be told 'your baby has cancer.'
When Gemma and Rod heard those frightening words, their little girl Stella was just three months old. They knew right away they were in the battle of their lives - and that no matter what they had to do to take care of their baby, they would do it.
But then they heard that Stella needed a stem cell transplant, which could only be performed at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. They were told they would have to uproot from their home in Tasmania and live next to the hospital for at least six
months. They had no idea where they were going to live, or how they were going to cope. As Gemma recalls...
“The most important thing for us was to be all together. That was the only way we could get through it. Our main concern was where were we going to live?!”
The simple truth is that without Fight Cancer Foundation supporters like you, they may never have found a place at all. That’s why your donation today is so important.
Please will you respond right away? If you get your gift to us before June 30, you’ll also be able to claim back the tax on your donation.
To be honest with you, I can’t imagine how stressful it must be for families to juggle the situation they face when their child needs a stem cell transplant. Imagine... you have to leave your home, and your job and the support of your family to go and live hundreds of kilometres away.
You can’t work – because you have to be there for your baby 24-7. You can’t afford a place in Melbourne CBD. And even if you could, what chance do you stand of finding one within a few streets of the hospital for a minimum of six months? This is just the kind of pressure that Gemma and Rod were facing. But then they heard some good news...
“We were fortunate enough to have an amazing social worker who put us in touch with Fight Cancer Foundation. We were able to stay close by to the hospital so that we were never far from Stella, and one of us could always be with her. We felt so at home from the moment we walked through the door.”
If you can donate today, you will help more families in the same situation. You’ll provide them with a safe, comfortable, home away from home that’s right on the hospital’s doorstep.
Please send a generous gift to help keep families together during the toughest battle of their lives. Thank you for everything you do to support our life-changing work.
